We started SustainabilityDefined out of our shared passion for the environment, good conversation, and – of course – bad jokes. Since meeting at a DC happy hour last spring, we’ve launched a successful podcast that’s now downloaded all over the world. It has grown from a bootstrapped operation with two Macbooks and a spreadsheet of personal sustainability contacts to an acclaimed podcast with over 20,000 downloads to date (not even counting streams!). The show was featured in iTunes’ New & Noteworthy section upon release and was listed as one of GreenBiz’s seven exceptional sustainability podcasts you should listen to. We’re humbled to now have organizations like Walmart and United Technologies approaching us and looking for opportunities to collaborate.
Our Mission & Needs
Here at SustainabilityDefined, we take the term “sustainability” and define it one topic (and one bad joke) at a time. Our mission sounds pretty straightforward, but there’s actually a bunch of behind-the-scenes legwork that goes into each of our episodes. From researching interesting new topics and conducting engaging interviews to editing audio files and marketing our content, we’re operating a max capacity and could use more hands on deck. That’s where you come into play!
We may be biased (ok – we are biased), but we think our work is earth-shattering and needs to be shared with as many ears as possible. Our challenge is that we simply don’t have the bandwidth to dedicate much time to such an important element of growth. We’re looking for someone to help us take the podcast to the next level. About you:
You’re as passionate about sustainability as you are about reach. You’re excited by the prospect of taking a successful podcast and spearheading its growth into both familiar and uncharted territory. You have a dedicated work ethic and are well versed in social media promotion, professional outreach, and a slew of other proven marketing tactics. You’re good with words, great with people, and thrive in ambiguous situations where solutions aren’t clearly defined. Fundamentally, you’re motivated by the opportunity to spread sustainability knowledge to a worldwide audience.
As much as we love sustainability, we know full well that our episodes are only as engaging as the editing work that builds them. We’ve developed an immense appreciation for thorough audio editing and production, but realize our own limitations at the same time. Let’s see if this mold fits you:
You’re a detail-oriented sustainability buff with demonstrated experience in GarageBand (bonus points for familiarity with Libsyn!). You understand the art of conversation and love synthesizing information into a clear, concise, and thought-provoking package. You’re not intimidated by quick project turnarounds and are open to feedback in the pursuit of audible perfection. You’re passionate about investing energy into back-end tasks, knowing how important their role is to the success of the podcast.
