overview of the financing and deploying clean energy (fdce) program

  • The Yale Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY) developed this 10-month, admissions-based online certificate for working professionals who seek to accelerate an equitable transition to a clean economy. The need for this is clear: While $1.7 trillion dollars is currently being invested annually in the clean energy sector, it is estimated that investing $2.5 trillion annually through 2050 will be necessary to meet our urgent climate goals.

  • In three years, the FDCE program has trained over 400 working professionals from around the globe to catalyze the transition to a clean economy via clean energy deployment.

  • The key objective of this program is to grow a powerful network of clean energy experts at the forefront of our energy transition, and help professionals understand the interplay of the financial, technological, and socioeconomic drivers in financing and deploying clean energy.

  • The program is designed for working professionals who are passionate about clean energy and want to advance their careers by gaining new skills in finance, technology, and policy, and mitigate climate change.

  • The program is completed entirely virtually, though Yale also hosts on-campus events, such as their Clean Energy Conference, and fosters local meetups between participants as well.

  • Participants spend about five hours a week on the core courses. This weekly time commitment generally involves: 1-2 hours of video, 2-3 hours of individual or group work, and 1 hour participating in live sessions.

  • The program is designed and delivered by faculty from the Yale School of Management, the Yale School of the Environment, and Yale College, by experts from the Yale alumni networks, and by CBEY’s industry partners. All serve as either lecturers, interviewees, or advisors.
